Newton Board of Education to Present Proposed
Merriam Avenue School Expansion Plans on March 14
The Newton Board of Education will give a presentation about school facility expansion plans under consideration during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday March 14, 2017, at 7:00 pm in the Merriam Avenue School All-Purpose Room. The Board invites community participation in the presentation through questions and further input to the decision-making process.
Superintendent Dr. Greene stated, “Our intent is to discuss the lengthy research and public discussions that have led to this proposal, the educational program planned for the expansion, estimated financial costs compared to other options, potential timelines and next steps. We look forward to this next opportunity to receive broad-based feedback on this initiative that we believe is vital to our ability to provide an appropriate education to our students now and in the future.”
Joining the presentation will be representatives from EI Associates, whom the Board has hired to produce schematic designs for submission to the New Jersey Department of Education.
There will be a public tour of the Merriam Avenue School building at 6:00 pm prior to the meeting for those who wish to participate. The Board will also be discussing and voting on a preliminary budget for the 2017-18 school year.
