Help us to help your community!  The Center for Prevention and Counseling is providing you with an opportunity to share what you are seeing and hearing about in your community regarding alcohol and other drug use. The Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities has been in existence for 19 years and periodically assesses the community to identify substance use patterns and trends, evaluate current prevention efforts and bring to light potential new emerging drugs. We are asking you to participate in our latest community survey. This information will be used to enhance our work, identify priority area of concerns and prevention interventions that will make an impact in our community.  You may benefit by knowing that you have contributed to the health and wellness of our community by providing your valuable information. The survey is easy to complete, completely confidential, and it only takes about 15 minutes.

Newton Rotary Club is seeking host homes and families for their Long Term Youth Exchange Program. This request is being made because there is a student at Newton High School who would like to participate as an "outbound" student and to complete the exchange we need to host an "inbound" student.

The Rotary International program is academic in nature, and inbound students are expected to attend school and participate in activities and athletics as any other student would do. They are here approximately 10 -11 months and are sponsored by and provided with an allowance by Newton Rotary. The club also provides a counselor who meets monthly with the student to assure all is going well.
Living arrangements are provided by host families who volunteer to open their homes to a student for 3 - 3 1/2 months. The preferred model is to have 3 families so the student gets at least three different family living experiences. Families must attend an orientation meeting and anyone over the age of 18 must agree to a background check before hosting. There is no pay for being a host family, and they must be able to provide students with basic necessities. Without exception every family that has ever hosted has reported that this is one of the most rewarding experiences they have ever had, and they remain in contact with their student for years after the exchange is complete.
For further information:  Contact Dr. Barbara Miller, Newton Rotary Club Youth Exchange Coordinator, at or by cell phone at 973-903-3845.
