Parent Outreach and the Parent Outreach Center
“Our school is a place where students, teachers, and parents work together as a community of learners, where each and every member is a valued contributor.”
Merriam Avenue School is the home of many parent outreach initiatives! At Merriam and throughout the District, staff members are committed to strengthening connections between the family, the school and community.
One parent outreach opportunity is Merriam's "Coffee With the Principal" meetings- an open forum for informal conversations. These morning meetings are a relaxed opportunity to have questions answered while interacting with the Principal, Assistant Principal and Parent Outreach Coordinator- all of whom are on hand to welcome everyone with hot coffee and a pastry or two!
The Parent Outreach Center is a drop-in site located to the left of the lobby in the main hallway. It is the “go to” place for ideas, strategies, and assistance on topics ranging from academic supports and homework help to behavioral supports to assistance with connecting to services available in our community.
Please feel comfortable to stop in anytime, or call for an appointment with Linda Salerno to chat about the services Merriam provides to students and families.
Merriam's Family Learning Academy, another arm of the Parent Outreach Center, is an open invitation to all parents to participate in free classes! Parents share, explore, and learn about the subjects their children are learning each and every day in school! Parents have a great time learning in these fun, relaxed, hands-on classes focused on Reading, Math, Writing, Language and Social/Emotional development. Classes are instructed by Merriam's own teachers and...the Family Learning Academy classes and Pizza for the Family are free!
**Please see Family Learning Academy Registration information- it's located in the tab on the left side scrollbar and is labeled, "Family Learning Academy".
**Please note: Merriam houses a food pantry that is available to all
