Merriam Ave School Named National School of Character

Merriam Ave School Named National School of Character | May 12, 2017

Character.org, the nonprofit organization that validates character initiatives in schools and communities around the world, today designated 83 schools and 4 districts from 21 states as 2017 National Schools and Districts of Character.

Merriam Avenue School in Newton, NJ has been selected as one of the designated schools for 2017, the first in Sussex County.  Principal Kevin Stanton made the announcement to teachers, support staff, and PTO members at a staff appreciation breakfast and broadcast the news to students.

About the recognition, he said, “Receiving this distinction is a credit to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, students, counselors and all of the staff at Merriam Avenue School.  We don't do this work for awards. We support and care for children and families because it is the right thing to do. But we do appreciate the recognition because it highlights the importance of character education in our school."
