March 31, 2017

SENIOR CITIZENS PROPERTY TAX REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM
Deadline to file for this year is June 1, 2017

This program is designed to help qualified senior citizens save money on their property taxes!  A qualified homeowner/taxpayer can freeze their taxes at a base year’s cost.  If approved, they do have to pay the increased taxes, but the state reimburses the taxpayer the difference between the base year tax cost and the years after that.

Qualifications include being at least 65 years old or receiving Federal SS disability, living in NJ for the last 10 years and owning your own home for the past three years.  Seniors can have income up to $87,007 for the household.  For information and forms, please go to the New Jersey Department of Treasury website, http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/ptr/printform.shtml. If you have questions or need assistance completing the forms, please contact the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program of NORWESCAP at 973-784-4900, extension 3502.
