Statement on School Lockdown

(January 25, 2021 at 2:40 pm)  Earlier this afternoon a report was made by the Newton Police that a weapon was discharged at the Newton Town Centre at 225 Spring Street while an individual was in contact with police officers.  Our schools were placed in lockdown and then shelter-in-place briefly as a precaution.  The individual was brought into custody shortly thereafter and the shelter-in-place has been lifted.  Students are being safely dismissed from the schools at this time, and parents and staff were notified.  Further details may be issued later by the Newton Police.
