On July 27, 2021, the Newton Board of Education approved an updated version of the district's Safe Return to School Plan for the 2021-22 school year.
This plan is required by ESSER 3 (American Rescue Plan). A draft Plan was shared for initial review and feedback with the District Restart Committee, which developed the original Restart and Recovery Plan in Summer 2020. It was then presented to the Board of Education prior to a public hearing on June 8, 2021, at which community comment was sought. A finalized Plan was presented to the Board of Education for approval on June 22, 2021.
On June 28, 2021, the NJ Departments of Health and Education released, “The Road Forward: Health and Safety Guidance for the 2021-2022 School Year.” This document was used as a guide for revising the protocols in this Plan, which was presented to the Board of Education for approval on July 27, 2021.
Modifications to this plan will be considered as updated state health guidance is issued. Additional information on school opening will be provided to families by school administrators later in the summer.
