Principal's Message
A Message From the Principal
Welcome to Merriam Avenue School!
My name is Kevin Stanton and this year I am starting my twelfth year as principal. Overall, this is my twenty-fifth year in public education - most of which has been spent right here in Newton, first as a teacher and then as an administrator in various roles. Throughout my career I have had the privilege of working with outstanding educators who are not only smart and good at what they do, but who also care about their students as people and as individuals.
At Merriam the values of care and inclusion are prioritized. Teachers and staff support children in their learning as they grow to be the best versions of themselves. The teachers and staff at Merriam strive every day to positively impact the lives of their students and I am proud to learn with them and from these amazing educators every day.
Here at Merriam we are also committed to collaborating with parents and caregivers because we understand that a school is a community, not just of students and teachers, but also of parents, grandparents, siblings, and families. All of the learning needs of children are important and here at Merriam we provide services and support to meet each child’s individual needs no matter what those needs are.
I look forward to another school year working with the students, educators, and community members here at Merriam. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks!
Kevin Stanton
