The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, reauthorized as the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965, funds and supports the academic achievement of all of our students through Title 1. The goal of our Title I Program is to provide academic excellence for our students to acquire the knowledge and skills contained in the challenging Common Core State Standards.  This is accomplished by:

  • Focusing on improving the skills of all students through research-based practices

  • Supporting early reading programs

  • Highly qualified classroom teachers

  • Developing a strong framework for accountability

  • Holding schools accountable for results

Title 1 funds are used to fund staff, learning materials, after school enrichment programs, and the summer enrichment program which is open to all children attending Merriam Avenue Elementary and Halsted Middle School.

The cornerstones of the Title I program continue to be cooperation and accountability. Therefore, Title I has been integrated and is part of each school’s overall instructional program. One of the ways this goal is accomplished is by the creation of a Title I Schoolwide Plan for both Merriam Avenue School and Halsted Middle School. This plan guides how Title 1 funds are spent in each school. School level stakeholders have the opportunity to collaborate and develop a plan which takes into consideration effective instructional practices and evidence based methods of improving student achievement, professional development and community involvement.

The documents attached below provide further information about Title 1 Programs in our schools and district.
