Welcome to the Newton Preschool!
As the school nurse, your child’s health and safety is my main focus. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome an open line of communication because I believe we need to work together as a team for the best educational experience for your child. If your child has a health concern please contact me directly prior to the start of school.
Immunizations
Immunizations are effective at protecting your child from certain viruses and diseases. Immunizations are required prior to the start of school. Influenza vaccinations are required for all preschoolers under the age of 5 years old, by December 31st each year, in order to attend school.
Physical Examination
A physical examination is required for entry into school. Please print out the physical examination form for your child’s doctor to complete and send it to me.
Medication
If your child requires medication during the school day, please contact me directly prior to the start of school. Our school Medication Policy requires all medications, including over the counter medication (such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen and an antacid) to have a new physician’s order and parent’s signature each school year. The medication must be in an original container and/or prescription bottle with the child’s name. The form is attached below. Parents must hand deliver medications with completed forms to the nurse to be checked for full accuracy. No medications will be administered at school without the completed forms.
Health Screenings
Children will be screened annually for height, weight, blood pressure, vision, dental and hearing.
Class Parties
Homemade treats are not allowed for classroom parties or celebrations. Homemade treats include, but are not limited to, boxed mixes and any type of treat that requires preparation at home. All treats must be store bought, sealed in the original packaging with the ingredients list attached. Classrooms with allergies have stricter guidelines, you will receive a letter explaining those guidelines if necessary. If you have questions about the safety of your treat please contact me before the date of your celebration so we have ample time to make sure the treat is safe.
