The Halsted Student Council is hosting the “Stuff the Stocking” Toy Collection to help those in need during this season of giving!
The collection will run from October 23 through December 9. We are accepting new, unwrapped toys and gift cards to help make the holidays brighter for those in our community.
Donations can be placed in the collection bins located in the main office lobby and Room 207.

On Wednesday, Mrs Evanick and Ms. Neiman brought some of our 7th and 8th grade students to the Youth Empowerment Summit led by the Center for Prevention and Counceling and hosted at Sussex County Technical School. Students participated in leadership workshops, listened to keynote speakers, and collaborated with each other on ways to continue to spread positivity and kindness at HMS! It was an uplifting and energetic day!

All families should expect to receive a test alert. No action is required when the message arrives.

Dialed Action Sports' BMX Anti-Bullying Assembly is a high-energy school program that combines world-class extreme sports stunts with a powerful educational message. Professional BMX athletes, Evan & Jack captivated our scholars with jaw-dropping tricks while delivering their core anti-bullying framework: Recognize, Refuse, and React.
The engaging presentation taught our scholars how to identify bullying, understand the difference between harmless joking and harmful behavior, and know exactly what to do when they or others are targeted. By pairing thrilling entertainment with positive athlete role models, the program captured scholars' attention and inspired them to build a school culture of kindness, respect, and inclusivity.

Family Night Out is a free 11 week program for the whole family that focuses on connecting family members through fun activities and games. The program provides support for parents and interactive groups for children ages 5-11 and for teens 12-17 years old that focus on enhancing communication skills between family members and helping the family to increase their ability to express their feelings and concerns to one another. Dinner and drinks are provided. Additionally, free child-care is offered for children under 5 years old. This program begins on October 6th at Halsted Middle School. Spots are filling up quickly! We are very proud to announce that 6th GraderTroy Williams is the first runner-up for the 250th Chamber of Commerce Magazine Cover Contest.
The Sussex County magazine is scheduled for publication in the first quarter of 2027 and will feature stories and photos related to the 250th Anniversary celebrations that took place throughout Sussex County. Troy’s submission will be published in a story related to the contest and submissions received from local schools. Congrats Troy!

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Newton High School will host a special Always Remember Night during our home football game as our school and community mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
This evening will be an opportunity not only to remember and honor those whose lives were lost on September 11, but also to recognize the men and women who continue to serve our community every day.
We are proud to dedicate a special pregame tribute to our local first responders, including police, fire, EMS, dispatchers, veterans, and emergency volunteers. We especially encourage first responders and their families from throughout our community to join us for this meaningful evening of remembrance and gratitude.
